Don Juan arrives in England accompanied by his best friend Loporello. To escape a jealous husband, he passes himself off as the Duke of Cordoba. When he is exposed by the real Cordoba, he is thrown in jail. Thanks to the intervention of the Spanish ambassador, he is released and sent back to Spain. There, the Duke of Lorca, an intriguer, tries to convince Don Juan that a conflict with England would be a good thing...
