Just a real Jackie Chan film that never gets bored, but also never really special. The fights sometimes take a little too long, but are entertaining because he really uses everything as a weapon. A wooden pallet? No problem. A cement mixer? No problem. Wonderfully over the top, just like the final scene of course. A film that is actually not good and very predictable is still fun. The highlight of the film in my opinion was the old cyclist in that very ugly tracksuit, very funny. 3*

Oof.

Feel a little sorry for Sammo Hung. A rather sad last film to make. Apart from the fact that he has not attempted a comeback as a director in the meantime. After the drought of the late 90s (especially for this type of older HK legends) there is now some more room for them to set up another project. Certainly such a Hung, who as an actor shows up everywhere.

Well, Australia then. Don't think I've ever seen so many bad actors in one movie. It's that Chan himself is in it and Hung does a little cameo, but otherwise it's a really sad level. All those checkered guys who try to appear as tough as possible, but are really too ridiculous for words. The dialogues really don't make it any better.

If there is no fighting, the film just deserves a 0.5*, but the fights themselves are very nice. Lots of variety, long scenes and a thunderous ending where Chan drives an entire domain of fruit with a cabinet of a construction machine. I'd love to see him do it.

It's a shame that the film wasn't a bit better. Hung is not a world director, but usually does a better job than this. Fortunately the action was still okay, the film does not save as a whole, but still manages to put in a number of entertaining scenes.

2.0*

After 12 years, Chan and Hung get together again. But Hung lingers exactly in the 80s. At that time, Chan had finished movies like Drunken Master II and Rumble in the Bronx and the doors to America opened a little wider. mr. Nice Guy is his first film in (almost entirely) English. After this film, Hung left directing for what it is for a long time and mainly focused on directing action scenes in, for example, the Ip Man series.

The script is simple and we get cheesy characters that belong to the genre, but still seek a lot of attention. You can tell the film tries to strike a balance between Hung's humor and Chan's fights. In between, he still has to see to speak some English. The result is a lesser film that gets a bit chaotic at times, but still yields some nice scenes that the fans will enjoy. The following year he continues to follow the two tracks of humor and martial arts in the two well-known films Who am I (Chan at the top level in a real action film with the necessary stunts) and Rush Hour (the rather commercial route with more focus on humor for the US market).
