Undisputed plot

"Two Enemies ... The Mob ... The Ultimate Showdown."

Former world boxing champion George 'Iceman' Chambers is jailed after being convicted of raping a woman. Immediately wanting to prove himself, he challenges undefeated prison champion Monroe Hutchen to a fight. After a riot in the cafeteria, the two brawlers are separated. The management of the penal institution decides to put Hutchen in solitary to calm the mood. However, this is only a temporary measure: thanks to the mafia, which is active within the prison walls, the confrontation does happen.

After yesterday first the second and the third After having seen the "Undisputed" series, it was now the turn of this first mediocre part which was actually quite disappointing.

Despite the fact that they have turned out great in terms of cast including Wesley Snipes (in the role of prison boxing champion Monroe Hutchen), Ving Rhames (in the role of world boxing champion George 'Iceman' Chambers, who ends up in prison), Peter Falk (in the role of by sympathetic mob boss Mendy Ripstein) and Michael Rooker (in the role of prison guard AJ Mercker), the bland, boring, clichéd and very predictable story is not very interesting and doesn't really captivate. Because the film lasts less than 90 minutes, he still looks away nicely and also because of the necessary dry humor in the story.

Also the execution with some flashbacks and black/images here and there is disappointing and anyway the story is very slow (which also makes it all long-winded) and the fighting action (only in the form of boxing) is only sporadically present. Naturally, the film ends with a "Rocky 1"-esque cliché final fight between Monroe Hutchen and George 'Iceman' Chambers. That final fight is still fun, not because of the fighting, but mainly because of the dark commentator Marvin Bonds (played very nicely by Ed Lover) who reports on the fight in a nice humorous way and who also doesn't excel in games. For example, he spells the word "respect" as follows "This fight is for respect! RESPECK!" The cast has played better in other films, but they still did it somewhat creditably and then especially Ving Rhames with his shitty attitude.

All in all, just a mediocre prison-fighting film that, despite the well-known cast, does not convince anywhere. In my opinion this is definitely the worst part of the "Undisputed" series.

Now I don't want to be a whiner by giving this film a fairly low rating, despite the fact that I quite enjoyed Undisputed. The point is that the film doesn't really contain anything special, but that I remained glued to the tube, because I wanted to see how this story would end. Good acting from Wesley Snipes and Ving Rhames. The match is certainly there, but it is a film without real rewatch value. The whole structure is actually quite simple and the prison plot is not much. Great popcorn movie. Nice for once.

I may be planning to revisit the series, so I decided to set up Undisputed. No idea if I've ever seen this one, it's possible because much of it probably won't stick. A bit of what I had in mind also from the end. Slightly different though handled by the director. I don't know enough about boxing but if you've already gone down 2x and it completely flips in the next 2 rounds, that seems pretty far fetched to me.
Anyway, it wasn't that great and I expected more action for an Undisputed movie. The Yuri Boyka movies have a lot more action than this one. The story was still pretty okay here for a type of movie like this. Directing is mediocre.
