Don't forget to send me a copy.

Schwarzenegger film from the typical 80s that can hardly be taken seriously, just like Commando, but nevertheless has a certain gun factor. So wrong that it actually becomes cult again, and a kind of guilty pleasure.

Ultra-thin story about people in a dystopian society, those who don't get along are knocked down or locked up like Ben. In this case, he is also chosen to participate in a curious TV program. Not only do we see the phenomenon of popular abuse, but the image of the 'sensational' program itself is socially critical. The average person is a disaster tourist, and although murder and manslaughter like in this show is next level, the average person can just as easily be filled with non-news, someone else's misery, and the average gossip, backbiting, betrayal and behavior in the average reality TV.

Humorous is the so-called image of 2017, what an old mess we had three years ago, the typical one-liners of Austria Arnie, the rest of the bevy of steroids and red meat eaters including acquaintances of Arnie himself such as Jesse Ventura and Sven Ole Thorsen, years his training buddy I believe, and an unrecognizable Mic Fleetwood. Then the so-called Gladiators of which Dynamo is surely the stupidest with his ridiculous outfit, vehicle and singing. Not to forget Amber who indeed has a nice ass but otherwise terribly annoying.

The Running Man, after a book by Stephen King I just discovered, is far from top and can be called quite wrong and cult, but also enjoyable because it doesn't last too long. The end result is simply entertaining for once.

In retrospect, it's not very strange that I often confused this film with Total Recall. But The Running Man was created by another Paul, namely Paul Michael Glaser, better known as Starsky from that 1970s television series. Still, it feels like the presence of a director like Verhoeven - or someone like Terry Gilliam - would have done this film well, it would undoubtedly have sharpened it up a bit. Because The Running Man is extremely amusing, sometimes wonderfully pulpy, clumsy and clumsy, but it is far from a RoboCop of Brazil. The satire often remains rather flat and the film feels very middle-of-the-road despite the crazy premise. But then a very entertaining middle-of-the-road film, fortunately.

3.5 stars.
