What a completely meaningless nonsense this is.

Superheroes ok, but this is really too easy - and what also doesn't help is that they don't have anything special between them. As a newcomer, Layne easily stands out, as the only one who gets something of a story and depth except that of Theron. Everything else is completely interchangeable. Just like the whole movie, really - nothing comes out of it that I'm going to remember in a week or two, except maybe the disappointment. Oh, Kenzari is doing quite nice. Too bad it wasn't in a better movie.

Netflix once again issues a certificate of inability. Like the McDonalds of the entertainment world - a lovelessly produced tasteless quick bite that you better forget as soon as possible.

Bad.

Pretty meaningless action movie of something and nothing. Neither Charlize Theron nor any of her colleagues can convince, but they can hardly be blamed for that. The script is wafer thin and it would have been better to focus on action. While that doesn't amount to much either, that's all I'd seen potential in. It could have at least provided some fun and excitement, something the film definitely falls short of.

Gina Prince-Bythewood is clearly not an action director and the Old Guard shows that. It has become a mediocre piece with a lot of momentum in the film, but it is sometimes a tiring sit. This is partly due to the plot. This seems to be based on a graphic novel, but that doesn't really interest me when watching. The myth that is created is not fun and is ultimately no more than a coat rack to hang the story on. What follows is a generic action movie like so many appear in recent years. Definitely not my genre and unfortunately Bythewood doesn't know what to do with the fantasy aspect in this film. Which makes me reluctant to watch the movie. The bad guy is lame and actually this whole movie is about nothing. The story just isn't engaging at all.

Add to that the sometimes very poorly filmed action and the worthless music score and you unfortunately have a meaningless Netflix exclusive. But seriously, who the hell thought of putting on 50 Shades of Grey-like soft porn music every time during action scenes? You can't make up something like that! Really hilariously bad! It amazes me that in all 21 other opinions I hear only 1 person mention this bizarre soundtrack (pun intended).

Too bad, because with the smaller films Netflix manages to surprise me every month. But no, this kind of junk dominates the top 10 lists, while Netflix really releases a lot of nice Originals. I would like to forget about this kind of dredging as soon as possible.

1,5 * because the cast is doing its best to make some of this work after all.
