Been looking forward to this 2nd part for a long time but it was disappointing.

I think Washington agreed to a role in this 2nd film on the condition that he could bend the story a bit to his narcissistic hand, because man man man, what a do-gooder he is here, girl kidnapped by wrong father back to her mother, old holocaust survivor reunited with his sister and to top it all off he keeps a kid out of the hands of a gang with his sermon.

It's not going to be as bad as Stephen Seagal yet, but I'm afraid for the 3rd part. As long as he doesn't start collecting for the Salvation Army or helping old ladies cross the road, I'm fine with that.

Apart from that, the film is entertaining here and there and fun for a Sunday evening, action is funny on a day-to-day basis.

Unfortunately quite a disappointment since Washington is my favorite actor and part 1 is in my top 10 movie. But Denzel is the only one who still gets this sequel a little bit. You've been waiting the whole movie until those beautiful action scenes finally come, but they never come. First 10 minutes were the best.

Pretty okay.

Film that has a significantly better first half. That is where it gets its main strength from, and if Fuqua had been able to maintain that level, I would have easily given the film an extra half. Now The Equalizer 2 falls a little too much into Hollywood vicissitudes in the second half, but that certainly doesn't take away from the creeping first half.

Washington fits well in these kinds of roles, so it makes sense that we see him every time in these kinds of action roles. That man has a kind of charm that cannot be brushed away. This always works out well in action movies, because despite the fact that old age is catching up with him, Fuqua still manages to portray him as an intimidating, but mysterious hero who rarely goes off track.

Film feels like it was written half by Fuqua and half by a wealthy producer, as the film gradually trades its ominous and intriguing action sequences for a more spectacular finale and a slightly too predictable villain. The side stories such as the one with Sanders also add too little and ultimately contribute to the somewhat lesser second part. It's a somewhat pitiful sequel to a movie that was quite entertaining.

Also well acted, sometimes cleverly edited and regularly topped with fun, action-packed sequences. Why they opt for a more predictable and therefore suffere second half escapes me a bit. Would have liked them to have consistently maintained the same kind of path and level, but unfortunately I was able to give up that hope after a while. Fuqua is probably a strong director if he can follow a more original path.
