Terminator Genisys plot

"Reset the future"

It's 2029, and the 'Future War' is raging in full force between a group of human rebels and the evil AI network Skynet. John Connor is the leader of the rebellion and Kyle Reese is his faithful soldier, raised in the ruins of post-apocalyptic California. Connor sends Reese back to 1984 to rescue Connor's mother, Sarah, from the Terminator who must kill her so she doesn't have John. Once arrived in 1984, the world turns out to be very different from what Reese had expected. For example, since she was nine years old, Sarah has been raised by the Terminator who originally had to take her out...

What an incredible travesty this part is, even worse than part 3.

It sometimes seemed like I was watching a parody where everything from parts 1 and 2 was ridiculed and all bad humor and one-liners were picked out. The worst part was the fact that they use the first two parts to rewrite and retconn history so that the story becomes one big mess.

Of course T1 and T2 had their paradoxes and weaknesses, but with this part the franchise is just brutally crushed. Especially the fact that John Connor has become a bad guy is just idiotic and totally illogical.

Emilia Clarke is not bad in itself, but does not have the charisma of Linda Hamilton. As with her fellow players, the bad script doesn't allow her to show any depth in her character.

My conclusion: put the Terminator franchise to rest, stop milking it and if you have nostalgia cravings, just get T2 off the shelf again. Because Genisys just failed, typing with it.

Saw this again after the, for James Cameron standards, disappointing 'too little too late' T6 Dark Faith. I previously posted a review here that was rather short because I still think it should have stayed with the first 2 Terminators. Other than that, this movie is very well made.

Actually I think this Genisys is the best Terminator after the first 2. The 2 predecessors T3 Rise of the machines and T4 Salvation were actually failures with a totally wrong casting as well. The most recent T6 Dark Faith also does not come close to this Genisys.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is getting too old for this kind of film, but he does put the robot down with some comical nuances in his facial expressions. Have to say that I am a fan of Emilia Clarke who portrays Sarah Connor, one of the better actresses of the Millenial generation (from 1986), she has looked closely at the previous Terminators to study the mimicry of Linda Hamilton and can indeed all types of roles.

The story has an original twist that I won't elaborate on for those who haven't seen it yet. As far as I'm concerned, this could have been a successor to the then groundbreaking T2.

And I volunteered for this shit

More and more tampering with the time travel thing has done a lot of damage to the Terminator saga. Furthermore, with this part there was also the unfortunate idea to reboot the saga completely and only keep part 1 intact.

Totally unnecessary because Terminator 4 showed that the apocalyptic future, the war against the machines, can be very spectacular. And up to and including that 4th part, in principle everything was still consistent.

This part does start in that future, but after fifteen minutes we are already in reboot mode. Now it's done pretty well at first. The scenes in 1984 up to the time jump are the highlight of the film.

After that it gets a bit complicated with time travel stuff with alternate timelines. When I'm watching a movie I never feel like doing such a puzzle because of the pace.

Then the cast. Mother of dragons in Game Of Thrones, Emilia Clarke, as Sarah Connor and Jai Courtney (Divergent) as Kyle Reese are some uninspired choices. Halfway through the film there is a scene where you understand that they were looking for an actor who is a bit more "buff" than Michael Biehn in part 1. But both actors are a bit flat. Jason Clarke, not related to Emilia, plays John Connor and has enough charisma for that.

Of all the Terminator parts, this one has the most surprising enemy. But terrifying each part after T2 has been able to do less and less. There is plenty of action, but the creativity in the action of the 1984 part is lacking a bit more in the second part of the film. The film also has a little bit of humor, but from a graphical point of view, I didn't find it interesting anymore at the end. Genisys is therefore only above 1 even worse part, the last: Terminator Dark Fate.

I also didn't understand how (a well-dressed one) Ahnuld could have survived that huge explosion at the end and the Terminator, which consisted entirely of small nanos, couldn't.
