Insufferable film with a JCVD without appearance. I absolutely hate these kinds of stories with a war background. Action NEVER gets off the ground with just a bunch of hopeless gunfights. Generic badguys, no pace and the characters (journalists, politicians) get on their nerves. A sickeningly bad, middle of the road action-war product.

Nothing special, but as a snack this simple action film was still quite doable. The story doesn't amount to much (since this is a B-movie, that's a good thing) but the pace is high and there is also quite a bit of action (a lot of paf paf poof shot). The execution is also actually good and the film even managed to captivate me (even a bit exciting). You should not expect much from the cast, but Jean-Claude Van Damme still did a good job (sometimes was also nice) and it was nice to see him again in a movie. The film doesn't last long, so he looks away nicely.

Bad.

The Expendables aside, this film is the first after its heyday in the 1990s that I see by Jean-Claude Van Damme. In any case, this does not invite to see more from the same period, to say the least. After all, all the charm of JCDV films is gone: it's all very serious, Van Damme too, and it hardly entertains at all: no charismatic bad guys, no silly tunes or neck rugs, an ugly, industrial look, ... Second in Command has especially anything to make it bad. It does not disappoint in that regard.
