Romancing the Stone plot

"She's a girl from the big city. He's a reckless soldier of fortune. For a fabulous treasure, they share an adventure no one could imagine... or survive."

Joan is a successful writer of sentimental newsstand novels. One day she is sent a map, on which the location of a large treasure is indicated. Shortly afterwards, her flat is turned upside down. Then she suddenly receives a phone call from her sister Eliane from Colombia, South America: Eliane appears to have been kidnapped and the kidnappers demand the map as a ransom. When Joan arrives in Colombia, she is immediately taken in tow by a corrupt cop who is also after the treasure. He guides her on the wrong bus and that bus breaks down in the jungle. Then suddenly the lifesaver shows up: adventurer Jack Colton...

Wonderful adventure film with nonsensical humor and spectacular action scenes in the jungle. Douglas plays a wonderfully charismatic lead and it clicks nicely with opposite Turner. The story makes no sense, but the fat wink is constantly present. It's a shame that such adventure films are no longer made and such humor no longer exists in Hollywood (only flat humor).

Quite an entertaining viewer. Romancing the Stone is an adventure film in its purest form, although nowhere does it get as extravagant or crowded as, say, an Indiana Jones movie. It remains a bit more minimal, a bit more with the foot on the brake. Entertaining for sure, not spectacular really. It is also mainly the adventurous scenes that the film has to rely on; the real action scenes ie the shooting back and forth are portrayed somewhat chaotic and uninteresting. But the chase scenes and the journey through the jungle are in any case pretty cool, and have a nice uncomplicated atmosphere. Kathleen Turner and Michael Douglas form a fine duo with infectious chemistry. Danny DeVito, on the other hand, is kind of wasted in a small and meaningless role. I thought beforehand that he was going to be more of a main threesome, so that was a shame. Robert Zemeckis later created many timeless classics; and while there's very little wrong with Romancing the Stone, I can't classify the film under that heading. In other words; great for once, but probably soon forgotten again. 3*.

Typical piece of childhood sentiment from the time when you crawled together as a family on the couch with a bag of chips to watch what the Saturday night movie would be. And then these were very nice films with a good mix of action, humor and romance.

The story may be known about writer Joan Wilder, a neurotic and shy house sparrow who actually ends up in the adventures she normally writes about. In this case something with a treasure map and many privateers on the coast. Partner in crime and hero against will and thanks Douglas as is often the case, and of course undercover De Vito as we often see.

It is especially funny how Wilder develops slowly and it must be said that Turner used to be quite a beautiful lady. The mix is as to be expected from this genre and time where the film originated with a bit of action, adventure, humor, stereotypes, a bit colder, but above all a smooth and easy to take in style. Are there any bad points to mention? Meh, it's not really of this time anymore. But other than that, Romancing The Stone is definitely a fun movie for once
