Rambo: Last Blood plot

"Everyone has one more fight in them"

In order to continue living in anonymity, John Rambo (Sylvester Stallone) has retired to a Texas ranch after his last mission. He leads a quiet life until the day a good friend's granddaughter is kidnapped by traffickers. Determined to save her, John sets off for Mexico, where he finds himself in the frenzied world of the sex trade and feels compelled to reach for his weapons again. This naturally puts bad blood at the Mexican cartel, which from that moment on has nothing but revenge. John will have to use all his past skills to survive this violent cat-and-mouse game.

Moderate.

Rambo IV I thought was great fun and after the sounds about ultra violence I was really looking forward to it.

But this is all just too much of a bad thing.

The biggest problem is the much too long run-up. The story is terribly basic but the makers need the strangest maneuvers to arrive at the violent climax. We follow an even older John Rambo who actually has things in order with his tunnels and house grandmother. Unfortunately, he has an attractive niece who wants to go to terrible Mexico if necessary. Whoever hopes that the action will start then has to hold his breath for a while. It takes more than three quarters of the film before the Home Alone Rambo version starts. In between it is biting through the cringe-inducing dialogues and laughing at the ridiculous scenario and characters. Obviously that wall is needed at the border because you can just drive through the fence!

Finally arriving at the action, there is finally that gore and ultraviolence. It's not impressive enough to make the film creep to that enough. It's all just a bit too random and the bad guys are generally stupid. It was best to walk out of the tunnel and regroup. By doing that you could have taken the violence a little further. Now most of it got stuck in the tunnels. The ending is funny, but it's never really a battle between the great hero and the ultimate bad guy.

Under the heading of cheesy b-movie fun still doable, but it could have been much more fun with slightly more skilled makers.

2.5 stars.

Impressive. Lots of violence and retaliation. Make Rambo angry and get all his lead, knives, arrows and grenades in your neck. Poor story as we are used to Rambo films. Barely survives a beating from bad Mexicans and then goes completely wild. Lures the angry Mexicans to his farm and prepares his escape routes a la "home alone" resulting in a true slaughter with open heart surgery at the end. (But then the other way around). Nice material for surgeons and operation assistants. Lots of carving with a Rambo knife. Advantage, there is acting in this film instead of laptop effects. 3.5 points ?

"You started this. I'll end it. I'm going to tear you apart, and this is what it feels like."

Even though the movie is as standard as the plague! Enjoyed until! Totally different setting, yes why not. Just keep your wits about you and check that trade. There were a lot of scenes where I said to myself: hatsikidee! That can't help but hurt! The screaming and yelling gave me enough confirmation! Good farewell to Rambo. Stallone you are a boss!

*** ½ from my side for 'Rambo: Last Blood'.
