Phew a bit bland.

A bit of a laugh with the British stick in the ass, but that is also the entire humorous palette of this film. Throw in some nasty Depp and Paltrow and you've pretty much summed up the entire movie. Koepp doesn't even bother.

Depp is especially annoying in this movie. Silly accent, some mannerisms and his character is already finished. Unfortunately, he doesn't have much range as an actor anymore. But the rest of the cast isn't much better. 1-dimensional and rarely fun.

The heist story doesn't add much either. It should really just be a coat rack, but because the rest of the film fails you're stuck with that as the main focus. The humor is just too easy, the action is third rate and then it takes way too long. But that will depend on the book.

Man, very bland. It's that the lightness still makes up for it a bit, but that's really all.

1.5*

Not as terrible as the many scathing reviews suggest, but given the talented cast, this is definitely a deception. Depp does a handsome imitation of Terry-Thomas, the British comedian of yesteryear, but one good imitation is by no means sufficient for a successful film. In addition, Depp is saddled with bland observations of botched jokes, often at the expense of Paul Bettany who plays Mortdecai's security guard. The story, insofar as it can generate any interest at all, concerns the search for a stolen painting. Original is different.

I thought this was a really bad movie. I gave up halfway through and I don't do that anytime soon. I like the main characters but not in this movie!
