Metro plot

"San Francisco's top police hostage negotiator is about to get more than he ever bargained for."

The film is about a hostage negotiator employed by the San Francisco Metropolitan Police named Scott Roper (Eddie Murphy). His unorthodox, yet successful methods make him the best in his field. Roper is paired up with a young, trigger-happy sniper McCall (Michael Rapaport), whom he must teach the art of negotiation. Despite their differences, they manage to catch a completely deranged psychopath together. Even Roper's sharp tongue can't stop him from escaping again. When it turns out that the psychopath has his sights set on revenge, Roper and McCall become involved in a deadly game of cat and mouse.

“You know, there's a saying in Naples: When you think you're fuckin' them, they're fuckin' you.”

Average action movie that even Eddie Murphy can hardly put his stamp on. It is remarkably understated, and Metro as a film is very predictable and clichéd. And it has a boring bad guy in Wincott. The other actors are good, and especially Ejogo and Rapaport have nice supporting roles. But for an action movie, Metro has remarkably little action and lacks tension. Thirteen in a dozen.

Reasonable.

Metro is a typical 90s police movie, but also much more serious than I thought. The comic notes are rather scarce and they try to portray a scary psychopath with Michael Wincott. Eddie Murphy is doing okay. The only regret is that there is some attempt to make a kind of buddy connection, but the chemistry with the ever dull-looking Michael Rapaport is non-existent.
