Lukas plot
Lukas works as a manager in a nightclub. He is already in his fifties and still regularly throws punches. Meanwhile, he struggles to raise his 8-year-old daughter. One day, Lukas almost ends up in jail. He is asked for help by the police. They want to arrest a criminal who operates in Belgium. If Lukas successfully completes his assignment, he will not lose custody of his daughter.

Lukas is a film with a heart.
Van Damme plays a bouncer who must infiltrate a criminal organization at all costs. On paper this sounds like a standard B movie, but Lukas is far from that. Lukas a very raw film with beautiful shots and close ups of Van Damme.
Van Damme makes himself vulnerable and is very convincing as the father who would do anything for his daughter. You see him as a man of flesh and blood. The moving music, the good actors and the story, which is simple but so well developed, ensure that Lukas is a film that distinguishes itself.
As a viewer you constantly feel an underlying tension and want to know how the story will continue. I really enjoyed this film and what a relief to see Van Damme on the big screen again. I hope he will deliver more of these types of films because this is simply top material, as far as I'm concerned you can submit this film for the Oscar.
Seen at the film festival and also took a photo there with the cast themselves. That was a wonderful experience and the fact that you then get to see this film, which is really rough, realistic and raw, but so well developed, was just fantastic.

Reasonable crime drama. The story is not very special. The effect is quite nice. Leclerq takes it easy. The pace is not fast and the action is also moderate. The film has little color and the soundtrack is also gloomy. But with all this it becomes quite a nice whole. Van Damme doesn't do a bad job and plays a good, almost emotionless role. Other than that it's all pretty average and the film doesn't peak anywhere. 3.0/3.5

The thing is, I don't follow the Belgian market, but I hadn't heard of this one yet. This must have had a very limited release.
A shame really, because the film is far from bad. I had quite a bit of fun with it. Not super high quality, but solid. An aging JCVD, but still tough as a bodyguard and jack of all trades. Quite a hackneyed plot as a single father with a child. They haven't been creative.
It's fun to watch when he finds himself between the hammer and anvil to roll up a criminal gang. Quite short at 80 minutes. Nice snack!
