Margaret Winston's sister is kidnapped one day by ruthless slave drivers, and no one seems to be able to do anything about it. Fortunately, Margaret's grandfather remembers a legend about the hero Jake Speed, and together they decide to find the man. Speed even turns out to be alive, although he has lost a lot of his shine in the meantime, and he is less legendary than the stories suggested.
