Hell Dogs plot
Former police officer Shogo Kanetake is traumatized by the murder of his lover. He has turned his back on his emotions and justice and now lives only for revenge. This has been noticed by the authorities and they order Shogo to infiltrate the largest yakuza organization. His entry into the group may be yakuza member Hideki Murooka, who is always hungry and eating. Very nice Yakuza epic.
Harada is such a director without a pronounced style, but still someone who always knows how to give something extra to his films. Au fond is the typical genre work, that is no different with this Hell Dogs, but as an enthusiast you soon notice where Harada deviates a bit from the usual.
For example, the locations are very cleverly chosen, the action scenes are a bit more stylish and the soundtrack sounds a bit more modern. All things that distinguish the film from a mountain of similar films. Not immediately enough to convince non-enthusiasts, but for fans of the genre it is a dash of welcome variation.
Furthermore, a relatively complex story that takes a while to get going. Quite a few characters have to be introduced and the mutual relationships are traditionally quite extensive. Food for the enthusiast, who can enjoy smaller details that have been polished. And for once you can also watch it on Netflix.

A film that takes its time to get going, but mainly wants to be a crime film with action instead of an action film with some crime. The characters are given time to grow and the story is more than bad guy vs good guy. The action itself is wonderfully rough.
It is the film adaptation of a manga, although I am not very familiar with it. Of course not. But the story is less light-hearted than you might think. Which in itself is good. In any case, enjoyed it.
