Still a lovely video.

Story is pretty simple. But that's all you need for these kinds of films. Was most surprised by the acting performance. Exceptionally good for a film like this. Especially Rourke and Johnson are doing very well and have a good chemistry to form a duo. And how slim was Sizemore here. Action scenes are very entertaining and take you into the light-hearted atmosphere of the film.

Nice action film that relies more on style than story.

Harley and Marlboro are archetype men of the rough husk, white spunk type. Often entertaining, but also very caricatured. The bad guys are just as stereotypical as the heroes. The storyline is quite predictable and certain effects look very dated.

Thanks to these shortcomings, the film does look very nostalgic, so nice for those who are sensitive to that retro vibe (like me)

But thanks to the smooth narrative style, the many characteristic characters and the humor, this film certainly gets a good pass. And of course the opening scene remains fantastic, Rourke on his Harley with Bon Jovi in the background... still an iconic picture.

3.5*

I suspect I've seen it before, how the film scored further on IMDb and MM was unknown to me, so I was pleasantly surprised in that regard.

And I have to say that the neo-noir like setting in the beginning and the Harley character really comes into its own. Just like the one-liners and the action at the gas station robbery. HD and MM can initially be compared to solid action work from the 80s, especially Beverly Hills Cop and 48 Hours. Good male humour, solid and not too stylized action and colorful characters. However, it is during the robbery of the transport truck where the shine wears off and everything falls apart. What a stupid action, just like the strange appearance of the men in the long coats. What follows after that is a bit of a mess in the character choices, a bad guy who is neither appealing nor scary and some relational concerns that really don't matter. Funny is at least the young Sizemore, Rourke also has a normal face, Vanessa Williams and Chelsea Field excellent views, Harley has a nice engine, that billiard punch in the beginning with the Eightball is very tight, we have a beautiful location with an aircraft graveyard where all kinds of aircraft including Corsairs are located, does it sound and looks like a Baldwin then it must be a Baldwin even if it is not known, we see Airwolf and we have a scene with that same helicopter that almost has one looks like one with a scene in the game Max Payne.

Is it enough to save the movie? No, if that robbery had looked a little more serious, HD and MM would have dragged one out just enough, but not now.
