Just seen this one in the Sneak. My god what a movie. If you combine The running man(1987), The Hunger games, Death Race and Saw for example, you get this. But also with a lot of humor. The film never takes itself seriously and that just gives it that little bit extra. Can't stand blood or violence but have you enjoyed a movie like Deadpool go watch it. I've enjoyed it.

Fine yes.

You don't see these kind of movies very often, so it's always a bit scary to see if it actually becomes fun. Didn't have much faith in Howden beforehand, luckily this film is much better than his first attempt.

Radcliffe has long been freed from his Potter image, Weaving has really put himself in the spotlight in recent years. There is really no one better for these kinds of roles at the moment. Nice duo, supplemented by a freaky villain and a wonderful cameo from Darby.

Nowadays you hear more often talk about maximalist cinema and this fits neatly under that. Everything as in your face and explicit as possible, with spinning cameras, filters, animation, slo-mo and whatever else is in the bag of tricks. I like it, especially when it's done skillfully.

In the direction of movies like Hardcore Henry, Crank, Scott Pilgrim and Shoot 'em Up. You really don't need to know more.

4.0* and a extended review

Three times Nix

Guns Akimbo, when I heard about this for the first time, immediately got me excited. It hadn't happened during the theatrical release to watch it, but afterwards I can say I'm just glad I didn't. In addition to an hour and a half of my time (which seemed to last much longer), I would have lost 10 euros for a ticket, while I was now able to see it for free following a corona giveaway from Pathé. A happy accident, because this was not much.

Initially I was still enthusiastic, but my enthusiasm started to ebb. I understand that the story here only serves as a peg and is completely irrelevant. This only serves as an entry point for the creators to let loose completely, and wasn't the problem for me either. No, I'm referring to the largely lack of successful humor, and action scenes that feel empty and uninspired. The first moment that the action broke out was nice but the makers never managed to get it right, causing the setup and characters to lose their charm and Guns Akimbo turned into a dragon to watch.

Too bad, because Daniel Radcliffe did a good job in the base and the character of Samara Weaving also grabbed my interest initially. This soon diminished when, after her character Nix was initially put away as a ruthless killer, then could not keep up with Miles, so that he could always just escape from her. Characters react stupidly and illogically anyway, are in the right place at the right time in the service of the story without it often feeling even somewhat plausible. In addition, the focus is also far too strong on the current internet era, which means that Guns Akimbo will be helplessly outdated in a few years.

1,5*
