Today, watched again on Blu-ray.

A bit adolescent indeed, but the dialogues are wonderful and you feel the tension. The camera work is excellent, with images of the real GDR, which you hardly see anymore before the Wende.

An entertaining 80s film with a stunning Linda Fiorentino.

I did think the first half was a bit stronger than the 2nd half, the whole crime story works quite well at times, but it also collapses a bit in the middle of the film, which unfortunately sometimes slows down the momentum a bit. It is especially fun to follow the adventures of Jonathan, which is also nicely portrayed by Anthony Edwards.

Gotcha! definitely falls under the entertaining 80s classics as far as I'm concerned.

3.5*

Oh that movie.

I'm reviewing some films with Linda Fiorentino, but forgot I'd already seen this one - maybe even more than once. And it remains a funny thing, although you clearly shouldn't take it too seriously - but the exaggerated emphasis on East Berlin continues to make you laugh, just like Fiorentino's incredibly fake accent - which incidentally, she can get away with her German and French quite well.

I also played the game here called Gotcha, also called Tag or Killer, about thirty years ago, but with water pistols - paintball is a bit too risky in the public, and it might now also be a bit difficult with water pistols - Not that it is less safe on the streets nowadays, on the contrary, but the tolerance for everything that does not fit into a normal pattern has completely disappeared. Too bad, it was quite fun.
