Hector Villa, physically strong but emotionally weak, is one of millions of illegal immigrants who dream of a new life in the US. Hector dreams of becoming a professional boxer like his father once was, but finds himself already having to fight hard to survive in the grim realities of life on a Texas ranch. During the day, Hector works long days in the fields in the blazing sun. In the evenings, he swaps his work gloves for boxing gloves and fights in the surrounding bars and converted barns, where a $5 entry fee and a few rounds in the ring pays the winner more than a few days of hard work in the fields in the scorching heat. .
