'I want you to go back out on that track and hit the pace car.'

'What for?'

'Because you've hit every other goddamned thing out there, I want you to be perfect.'

Delicious and infectious 90s product and a decent bite of youth sentiment. A reason to start watching NASCAR at the time, unfortunately it was rarely as spectacular as was portrayed in this film. They really don't tolerate certain things like punching them into the wall and I don't think a driver was really welcome again by ramming someone like that after the race.

In addition, there are of course some parts that are too much, such as the race with the rental cars, but also the aggressive scene in the parking garage. On the other hand, certain humor is infectious, such as the fight about the ice cream, the dent in the car that Buddy doesn't get lazy, how the crew comes to greet Cole in his hospital room and the wheelchair race is also funny. Uberhaubt as an actor Quaid is special in the quasi-serious role of team boss, but the man of the film is especially Robert Duvall who more than fine portrays the somewhat rustic and stoic main mechanic and crew boss. His humor and that mischievous face are very contagious several times.

Days of Thunder characterizes itself as a nice light-hearted somewhat over the top racing film, fortunately not as bad as something out of shape like Driven, with a lot of spectacle on the track that is just like that, a perfect sound and well edited. The Private Matters is filler but entertaining nonetheless and to give a bit of spice to the whole. Rooker straight as always and Reilly could probably practice for The ballad of Ricky Bobby...

Entertaining, flashy, easily digestible and secretly quite catchy. Just nice every now and then.

Weird that I've never seen this one. I believe this is also the movie where Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman became a couple. A typical sports film in which setbacks, romance and the matches are brought to the viewer in glorious circumstances. Here the theme is motorsport and the competitions with the racing cars are nicely portrayed. Robert Duvall as a coach plays a convincing role and Cruise often chooses good productions. Not that I'm really a fan of it, but the films he plays in rarely disappoint. Fun scenes were also the jokes that the coach and the team played with Cruise. On their way to the next match, they are stopped and Cruise is searched violently by a policewoman (Leilani Sarelle). This one looked familiar to me and indeed it is the actress who plays Sharon Stone's girlfriend in Basic Instinct. Afterward, this scene becomes hilarious in the hospital when Cruise thinks the doctor (Kidman) is also a joke and thus also hired. Solid, smooth film with all the predictable elements that a sports film possesses. 6/10

At that time, Days of Thunder was best known for Maria McKee's "Show me Heaven, Cover me" I played that song quite a bit.

The film was best known as Daytona 500, which especially Americans are crazy about. Strangely enough, the sport is a lot less popular here in Europe and the Netherlands. Still, I'd like to see a race like that in Daytona. Stock cars haha. Still a great movie after 30 years. To be honest, I didn't expect much more from it, but now that it looks great on an amazing 4K I had to believe it. Okay the first half hour only see car races. If you don't like that, I can imagine that you will drop out. The twist comes mainly after the accident. There we see Nicole Kidman for the first time as a 21 year old!!! After Dead Calm a year earlier, one of her first known films of hers. It was a pleasure to watch her then. Tom Cruise was known for some time from Top Gun and Cocktail. But perhaps the best role in Days of Thunder is Robert Duvall. Already 89 years old. As so often, another excellent role from him. Especially because he continues to play so naturally. The power of his voice and appearance, which come out so beautifully with him, especially in westerns. Michael Rooker was also a well-known face of Cliffhanger at that time. Nice opponent in this movie. Lovely cockerel behavior both on the track and off it up to the wheelchair (lol).

Okay, the whole plot may well be simple. Dialogues are not of the highest level, but otherwise it is well put together from A to Z. Nice to see you again after 30 years!
