Alex is a shy 13 year old teenager. While visiting family in Mexico, the lad gains an unlikely companion when he discovers a young chupacabra hiding in his grandfather's shed. To save the mythical creature, Alex and his cousins must embark on the adventure of a lifetime.

Recently went to see lucha libre in Mexico, which was cool and made one aspect of this movie appeal to me. But otherwise this is a very clichéd film with a rare animal that is hunted, which manages to escape but is of course found by a child. That child is of course someone who is there on vacation to get acquainted with his roots, which he does not need, but which he does get a connection with through all the events. I feel like I've seen this movie many times before, but in a different setting. It is all further developed in a boring way, so that the film remains at 1* for me.

Indeed, a fairly standard family film that you can watch with your children of around 10 years old. All the ingredients of a family film are also present. Often it concerns a lonely bullied child who is not feeling well, but suddenly gets the chance to mean something and rise above himself. The magic of the events makes you forget the misery of real life for a while.
It is also about identity, about who you are and were. About loss and grief, about how to give it a place. All elements that have already been discussed many times. Only given a new look, although I thought that Mexican wrestling was a nice distraction. I even had an ET feeling with the introduction in the barn.
They made that Chupa as amiable as possible, it looked more like a dog puppy. That he actually sucks goats dry and thus also affects the livelihood of the goat farmer, that was quickly forgotten. The media and newspaper articles clearly did not apply to them. But all in all entertaining and enjoyable.
