Checkered Flag plot

Race car driver Mike Reardon and mechanic Tommy Trehearn are best friends, but their friendship is damaged when Reardon's girlfriend Chris eventually falls for Trehearn. Years later, Trehearn and Chris are married, have children and move to Arizona when Trehearn is selected to be a mechanic for a new racing team, which Reardon also happens to be a part of. Now they are each other's outright rivals, both on and off the racetrack.
