Moderate action thriller, which does start from a nice perspective. I also like that the film's premise is reached within a few minutes, so we don't have a uselessly slow intro when we already know where we're going. Then we can get annoyed by the beach boys and then we start with the tension, which is still fine. But hey, the film is very illogical. At first I had them in my head, but eventually they became too many. It then collapses very much and has a b-film-like feel. The overacting doesn't help either. The twists (of the dirty cops or the broken phone) are not enough. It is not a problem in itself to watch the film, it is just entertaining enough for that, but it is certainly not the best.

Ellis.

I don't know him very well as a director yet, but from what I have seen of him, the stylization that Cellular uses comes along nicely. Very focused on entertainment, pace and open eyes and less on atmosphere and design. This makes this film a simplistic and entertaining action film that is nice to look at.

It's also nice that Ellis has managed to bring in well-known actors, especially Statham in the villain role (and not even a main villain role) is a surprise. Then you know that it is also good in terms of acting, but still a number of them fall through the basket. Basinger in this case, an actress who doesn't come across as a normal individual for a moment. Could be the role, but even apart from that it's not convincing.

Furthermore, there is a lack of flow that makes films like this more exciting. I miss a sense of rush, adrenaline and intensity. Too often it feels like taking a leisurely stroll around the block with Evans. There is never any real panic, which means that the film is soon unable to fulfill what it wants to fulfill. Fortunately, the action is a bit better.

Not brilliantly designed otherwise, but all that noisy and clumsy stuff actually has its own charm. What really helps the film is the humor, because it is quite light-hearted. I realize it's a complex process if you want to mix thriller with action and comedy, but for such a simple film like this I think it's better if you drop a genre completely so that the mix comes out a bit better.

It's fun, but it doesn't have much to offer outside that it looks nice and sometimes is funny. Acting is nice from many members, only they would have done themselves well to just leave Basinger out. Ellis is truly a cinema director. Directs only for our entertainment, but there is just not much quality in between.

I reconsidered this one, because it soon became clear that I had seen it before, a lot was familiar to me. Nothing special.
