Three hundred and sixty-six episodes—try shoving that into a movie. Of course, that's impossible, and thankfully, that's not what they chose. Bleach is a series I started years ago and stopped at episode 130 due to some disappointing episodes. Still, I sometimes think back to the many great moments, the memorable characters, and the occasionally captivating Soul Society.

The film only covers a small portion of the series' beginning. I think if I weren't familiar with the series, I wouldn't know what to make of it, but for me, it was a pleasant throwback. The story remains somewhat vague due to its short running time, but it's clear enough for the unfamiliar.

The first comparison you make is the characters. They're quite striking in most cases. Ichigo, Urahara, and Ishida stand out, but Rukya is also well-cast, despite her very different appearance. Unfortunately, I found Renji and Byakuya a bit too feminine, but ridiculous hairstyles simply look cooler in anime than in real life.

The CGI still looked quite good, especially the Hollows. The fights between the shinigami are quite spectacular, sometimes even anime-like. It's great to see Renji's Zabimaru in action.

A great film, though I secretly hoped for more. You know, you can't fit everything into a movie, but I would have liked to see more of Soul Society and its rank systems, as well as some memorable captains. Or Byakuya's Bankai. Maybe I should rewatch the series then. After all, it's only a mere 120 hours long...

I'm not familiar with the manga series, so all the information about this film is new to me. I can imagine it's not easy to fit an entire series into one film, and then also consider the fan base. The film is a nice mix of humor, action, and fantasy. It's not particularly high-quality, but it's balanced enough with the necessary entertainment. The film doesn't immediately stand out, but as a blockbuster, it works. If there's enough material for a second installment, it's certainly welcome.

Mediocre action film. The story is limited and feels very crammed into its limited running time. There's little time for buildup or character development. Other than that, it's easy to follow, but it takes a while to get sucked into the film. Towards the end, it works a bit, but because the climax drags on, it starts to feel a bit tiresome. Visually, it's quite well-made. The acting is a bit overdone, with lots of screaming and shouting. 2.5.
