The first trailer for The Penguin has been released, with Colin Farrell returning as the title character.
In 2022, the Batman franchise was rebooted with The Batman, with Robert Pattinson starring as Bruce Wayne. Matt Reeves' movie received positive reviews and was a huge commercial success, too.
Alongside Pattinson were Colin Farrell as The Penguin, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman and Paul Dano as The Riddler.
Farrell's performance proved so popular that, not long after the movie's release, a television series based on the character of Penguin was announced. And, it seems like the series will lead up to the events of The Batman 2.
At the conclusion of The Batman, Oswald 'Oz' Cobblepot is poised to take over the crime syndicate previously led by Carmine Falcone, so the series will focus on his emergence as a new crime lord.
Deadline previously reported that the series would be akin to Scarface, as Penguin's ascendancy is akin to that of Tony Montana.
Reeves previously said: “There are some other things we have planned too. The BatVerse of what we're doing has me very, very excited, and I'm very passionate about it. So I'm excited."
It is believed that he is planning on doing two more series - one based on Arkham Asylum and the other based on the Gotham City Police Department.
In addition to Farrell, The Penguin stars Cristin Milioti, Clancy Brown and Michael Zegen.
Milioti plays Sofia Falcone, the daughter of Carmine. She will fight Cobblepot for leadership of the crime syndicate left rudderless after Carmine's death.
