Exciting news for Jurassic Park fans as Gareth Edwards is set to be announced as the new director for a reboot of the Jurassic World franchise.
Edwards is best known for directing Rogue One: A Star Wars Story which received rave reviews from critics. His other credits include Monsters, Godzilla and The Creator.
Jurassic Park is one of the most beloved movies of all time and is credited with ushering in a new era of impressive CGI which still holds up to this day.
That was followed by The Lost World: Jurassic Park and Jurassic Park III.
In 2015, the franchise received a reboot with the enormously successful Jurassic World, which grossed almost $1.7 billion at the box office.
Though its sequels Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and Jurassic World: Dominion did not receive as positive reviews, they both still grossed well over a billion dollars also.
Edwards is set to take over what is being described as a new era for the film series, which means it is unlikely that we will see characters from the previous movies played by Sam Neil, Laura Dern Jeff Goldblum, Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas-Howard.
The English filmmaker is said to have impressed producers Steven Spielberg and Frank Marshall with his vision for the franchise.
David Leitch was previously in talks to direct, but negotiations fell through.
Should Jurassic Park sequels have been made?
Colin Trevorrow directed Jurassic World and Jurassic World: Dominion, the latter of which received scathing reviews from critics.
He admits that sequels to such a beloved movie such as Jurassic Park should probably never have been made, but has defended his attempt to try something different with the story.
"There probably should have only been one Jurassic Park – but if we're gonna do it, how can I allow them to tell stories in a world which dinosaurs exist, as opposed to, here's another reason why we're going to an island?" he told Empire.
"I specifically did something different than the other films in order to change the DNA of the franchise. The previous five films are plots about dinosaurs. This one is a story about characters in a world in which they coexist with dinosaurs."
