'An international summit between the French and British leaders goes awry when the husband of the British Prime Minister is kidnapped and the French president is blackmailed.'
It stars Julie Delpy, Suranne Jones, Corey Mylchreest, Lucian Msamati, Ashley Thomas, James Cosmo and Jehnny Beth.
Hostage is created by Matt Chapman, who received an Academy Award nomination for his Bridge of Spies screenplay.
Jones said of working on the project: "I’m thrilled to be on Netflix, in something I’m really proud of. It’s been something I’ve wanted to do for a long time. We’d talked about projects previously, but for me, it was about finding the right thing. Hostage was perfect - me and Matt together, backed up by this brilliant, supportive team. I loved it."
A review from the Guardian states:
"The result is quite unusual, in so far as – unlike all political thrillers – it doesn’t remind you of any other. It’s a little biting but it’s not House of Cards cynical, it has a breakneck pace but it’s not 24, the dialogue is sharp but never played for laughs. Jones is relatable, patriotic, trying her best, absolutely in love with her kidnapped husband, an almost nostalgic portrait of an idealised prime minister from more innocent times."
