Vivienne Toussaint is the first female French president to run for re-election on any grounds – including tackling France's borders. A summit between the two women could be the answer to their prayers, if they can reach an agreement. But when Dalton's husband is kidnapped and Toussaint is blackmailed, they both face unimaginable choices.

Hostage season 1

You might think the five-part Hostage fits in the same category as The Diplomat, House of Cards, and Bodyguard. Nothing could be further from the truth. Hostage was written by Matt Charman (Bridge of Spies). Suranne Jones (Vigil, Doctor Foster, and executive producer) stars as the British Prime Minister. There's a lot wrong with this political action thriller. The biggest shortcoming is the sheer implausibility of Hostage.

There's no adequate security for heads of state, and many a person could easily walk into 10 Downing Street. The script is shaky, the dialogue childishly immature or forced, and the acting is subpar. Not to mention the predictability. Suranne Jones is a good actor, but in Hostage she lacks the authority to be a convincing prime minister. Miniseries are getting shorter and shorter. In the case of Hostage, that's a blessing.
