Nobody has asked for a Naked Gun reboot, but it seems like the wheels are finally in motion for a legacy sequel, according to Liam Neeson.
The original Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! is recognised as one of the greatest comedy movies of all time. It spawned two sequels: Naked Gun 2 1/2: The Smell of Fear and Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult.
The movies follow the escapades of Frank Drebin, played by the late, great Leslie Nielsen.
Talk of a fourth movie can be traced back to 2009 when Nielsen was approached to reprise his role for a direct-to-TV sequel. When Paramount requested that his role be minimised, the project ultimately fell apart.
Ed Helms then attempted to get a reboot off the ground, but that fizzled away, too.
Eventually, Paramount approached Seth MacFarlane of Family Guy fame to kickstars the project, and he eventually cast Neeson in the leading role.
"We’re waiting on a script. Yeah, we’re hoping it’ll happen this year, maybe in the summertime," the actor told Collider.
"Paramount Studios, I think. I approached Seth MacFarlane, he and his team are working on it, the scripts.
"So, we’re hoping to go in the summertime, you know?"
Priscilla Presley will not appear
Priscilla Presley played Jane, the love of Frank's life, in the original trilogy. But, even though legacy sequels tend to bring actors from the previous movies back for cameos, she says she won't be appearing.
"No, I won't (be in it)! I wouldn't do it really if I was asked because you don't fix something that's already fixed," she revealed.
"That movie I don't think can be rebooted in the way that Leslie Nielsen and I did it. It was just a great relationship and friendship and we got along great on the set and that was just all fun and what a great experience.
"Now, in this one, gosh, the actors who are playing the characters, I can't see it visually. Maybe it will come across as great, but I wouldn't be a part of it."
