Both Laura Dern and Sam Neill have questioned just how appropriate the 20-year age gap was between their two loved-up characters in the original Jurassic Park.
In the 1993 classic, Dern was 23-years-old when she played Dr Ellie Sattler, while Neill was 43-years-old during filming when playing Dr Alan Grant.
The two characters meet as all hell breaks loose at Isla Nublar, with romantic feelings eventually surfacing.
Neil admits that the age gap didn't feel like an issue at the time.
"I am 20 years older than Laura! Which at the time was a completely appropriate age difference for a leading man and lady,” Neill told the Sunday Times.
“It never occurred to me until I opened a magazine and there was an article called ‘Old Geezers and Gals.’ People like Harrison Ford and Sean Connery acting with much younger people.
"And there I was, on the list. I thought, ‘Come on. It can’t be true.'"
Dern echoed the sentiments of her co-star by explaining that it was only around the time for filming Jurassic World: Dominion that she realised the age gap may not have been appropriate.
“Well, it felt completely appropriate to fall in love with Sam Neill,” the actress confessed.
“And it was only now, when we returned in a moment of cultural awareness about the patriarchy, that I was, like, ‘Wow! We’re not the same age?’”
Both Dern and Neill will reprise their iconic roles for the upcoming 2022 release of Jurassic World: Dominion, joining the new trilogy's stars, Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard.
It is set for release in the United Kingdom on 10 June.
