The official trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder has been released, with fans being given a first look at Christian Bale's terrifying new villain, Gorr the God Butcher.
The trailer opens with a voiceover from Thor's pal Korg (Taika Waititi) who tells some young Asgardians about Thor's journey so far, including getting back to being ripped after rocking a dad bod in Avengers: Endgame.
Then, we get our first surprise as, in the middle of a battle, Thor's former lover Jane returns as The Mighty Thor, having someone gained superhero powers from the last time we saw her.
Writer and director Waititi previously revealed that Jane's return would be a mindf*ck for Thor.
“It’s been about eight years,” the film's director explained to Empire.
“She’s had a whole other life, and then the love of your life comes back on the scene, and is now dressed like you. It’s a real mindf*ck for Thor.”
Gorr the God Butcher
The highlight of the trailer is undoubtedly the first appearance of Love and Thunder's main protagonist, Gorr.
Gorr, it seems, is holding a grudge against Gods for their alleged actions against lesser beings.
In the words of Gorr himself: "the only ones who Gods care about is themselves. So this is my vow - all Gods will die."
The God Butcher's plan is clear from the get-go, and he'll have his sights set on Thor, the Guardians of the Galaxy and of course, Jane.
An interesting dynamic also develops between the two main women in Thor's life, Foster and Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie, who will no doubt have a few jokes to share at Thor's expense.
The pair are having a ball in the trailer in one particular scene as Thor is suddenly flicked into nakedness by Russell Crowe's Zeus.
Thor: Love and Thunder is set to be released on 8 July and stars Hemsworth, Portman, Bale, Thompson, Waititi, Jaimie Alexander, Chris Pratt, Pom Klementieff, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, and Bradley Cooper.
