Shazam!: Fury of the Gods director David F. Sandberg has taken to his social media to address rumours surrounding Gal Gadot's appearance as Wonder Woman in the movie.
In the sequel to Shazam!, Gadot features as Wonder Woman in a cameo appearance. After the movie's release, set photos emerged online which showed body double Taylor Cahill in full Wonder Woman gear.
Some fans wrongly speculated that Gadot's appearance was aided by deepfake technology with her head on Cahill's body, but Sandberg says that was not the case.
Writing on Twitter, the movie's director explained:
"We shot the scene with to figure out what coverage we then needed to get with Gal since she couldn't make it to Atlanta. It's also Taylor's body with the wizard's head on it. There is absolutely no deepfaking going on. When you see Gal it's 100% her."
It is common that body doubles and stunt doubles are used in this way so it seems off that the rumour gathered pace in the first place.
Sandberg done with Superhero flicks?
Fury of the Gods has not received positive reviews from critics and was a box office failure. It's no surprise then that Sandberg is planning on taking a step away from the superhero genre.
"That's definitely how I feel right now, yeah," he told The Hollywood Reporter.
"I started my 'Shazam' journey right after Annabelle: Creation in 2017, and so it's been quite a few years of just Shazam. So I'm very ready to move on and go back to horror and just try some other things."
