Eddie Murphy has expressed interest in featuring in a Donkey spin-off movie in the Shrek franchise.
The veteran actor first voiced the character of Donkey in 2001's Shrek, and he would return for various sequels as well as Christmas specials.
The sucess of Puss in Boots and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish has led to fans to clamour for a potential Donkey movie, and Murphy wants to make it happen.
“I’d absolutely be open if they ever came with another Shrek, I’d do it in two seconds," he told ETalk.
"I love Donkey. You know, they did Puss in Boots movies. I was like, ‘They should have done a Donkey movie. Donkey is funnier than Puss in Boots.’
"I mean, I love Puss in Boots, but he ain’t as funny as the Donkey.
“I would do a Donkey movie. I would do another Shrek in two seconds. that’s on Dreamworks Animation. They have to want to do it. Dreamworks, if you all want to do it, just call me. I’m ready, I’m sitting and ready to do Donkey."
Will there be a Shrek 5?
In an interview with GQ, Mike Myers previously addressed the future of the franchise and whether a fifth instalment is in the works, and it seems like he would certainly be happy to return to the voice booth.
"I love playing Shrek," Myers said.
"If I had to do one Shrek a year I’d be thrilled. There’s an emotional centre there. You know the old joke: I wouldn’t want to be a member of a club that would have me as a member. I have always felt that way. The concept of going from a self-loathing ogre to a self-accepting ogre was meaningful to me."
Six years ago, screenwriter Michael McCullers confirmed that a script had already been completed.
"Shrek Five is being developed," he told the Hollywood Reporter in 2017.
"I finished that script, which I really, really, really love.
"It's really personal to me. It's got a pretty big reinvention behind it that I guess I can't reveal."
