Iconic 80s film Dirty Dancing is reportedly set to be getting a sequel, and here is everything that we know right now about the return of 'Baby.'
Dirty Dancing Sequel Cast: Rumours and more
According to a report from Variety back in 2022, Jennifer Grey is set to reprise her classic role as Frances “Baby” Houseman in the upcoming film.
Although Patrick Swayze sadly passed away back in 2009, there's still a chance that we could see him making an appearance in the film in some capacity.
Variety also noted that "filmmakers are in conversations with Swayze’s estate to incorporate the actor’s presence in some way" although it was not confirmed what this would be.
Dirty Dancing Director: Who is making the sequel?
Long Shot and Warm Bodies filmmaker Jonathan Levine revealed to Deadline in 2022 that he would be directing the sequel to the classic film.
He revealed to the site about the film's plot: "This film exists in a dialogue with the original. We want to introduce this story to a whole new generation. That said, Johnny’s absence looms large over the story, so it’s a coming-of-age story but also a coming-of-age for Baby’s character in a way."
When is Dirty Dancing 2 set?
It was also revealed in the exclusive from Deadline that the film would be set in the 90s, with several different tracks already being considered for the film:
"The movie’s music will range from songs from the original movie — 'Hungry Eyes' is among the songs set to return — to ‘90s hip-hop. Levine also name-checked Alanis Morissette and Liz Phair as artists whose songs potentially could feature."
Dirty Dancing Sequel Plot Rumours
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Jennifer Grey gave away some information regarding the plot of the film, but unfortunately, she did not give fans much to go on:
"I can't tell you much, sadly, but I will tell you that it will involve Baby. It will involve Kellerman's. There will be music. Unless there's a lot of CGI, Baby's going to be a little older " she noted.
"It's going to be Kellerman's, music, dancing, love story, romance. I'm just so super committed and invested in making it a fresh .
"What happened happened, and that will never happen again. There will never be another Johnny. There will never be another Patrick. This sequel has got to be its own standalone piece. It's very tricky" Grey concluded.
