Harrison Ford believes that Dial of Destiny will be Indiana Jones' last ever appearance in a movie.
Alongside Han Solo in Star Wars, Indiana Jones is Ford's most iconic character. He has played Indy in four releases so far - Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Temple of Doom, The Last Crusade and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
In 2023, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny will be released, and Ford says it won't just be his last time playing Indy, but Indy's last-ever appearance.
"This is the final film in the series, and this is the last time I’ll play the character," the legendary actor told Total Film.
"I anticipate that it will be the last time that he appears in a film.
"I had been ambitious to do this film for 10 years, and there finally came a time when we all committed to that. It was a joyous moment for me. I think it’s a rare situation that I find myself in.
"I’ve been able to deliver amazing films developed by Steven and George over a 40-year period, and to end it not with a whimper, but a bang, has been my greatest ambition for this excursion."
Why Ford decided to return as Indiana Jones
After a 19-year hiatus, Ford returned to the role for a fourth instalment, 2008's Indiana Jones and TheKingdom of the Crystal Skull.
Even though critical and fan reception was mixed, the commercial success the movie gained meant that further entries in the series was inevitable.
Eventually, James Mangold was selected as directed and Ford confirmed that Indiana Jones 5 will be his last time donning the famous hat and whip.
He says it was important that any new movie addressed Indy's age.
"I just thought it would be nice to see one where Indiana Jones was at the end of his journey," he told Empire.
"If a script came along that I felt gave me a way to extend the character."
