Brett Goldstein has revealed details of how he ended up playing Hercules in a post-credit scene in Thor: Love and Thunder.
Within Thor: Love and Thunder, Chris Hemsworth's character encounters Zeus as he attempts to recruit help in his battle against Gorr the God Butcher.
Zeus is seemingly killed via one of his own lightning bolts, but it is revealed during the credits that he survived. Not only has he survived, but he is plotting his revenge with his son Hercules, played by Goldstein, who is most famed for his role as Roy Kent in Ted Lasso.
It was a major surprise for audiences and, actually for Goldstein himself!
“They turn around, and they reveal, ‘It’s Hercules; it’s you.’ And I went, ‘What?’ Just like, ‘Are you serious? Are you fucking with me? Is this a wind-up?’ So yeah, it was as surprising to me as I think it has been to other people," he previously told The Playlist.
Superheroes, like Thor played by Hemsworth, are known for their god-like physiques.
Hercules was set to be no different, and Goldstein has said how he was only given two weeks to bulk up to play the son of Zeus.
"When I spoke to Taika, I said, 'You know I'm basically like a skinny comedian?' I said, 'When is this filming?' It was like in two weeks, and I was like, 'I mean, I'll do my best, but two weeks feels …' I said, 'He doesn't have to be as big as Thor, does he?,'" he said of his initial meeting with Taika Waititi.
"And look, on the day, I mean, I'm doing 400 pushups that day. I was fit to explode. I did the best I could on that day."
Will Hercules return in the MCU?
Plans for the next Thor movie are unclear at the moment, as is the future of Zeus and Hercules.
Goldstein has confessed that he doesn't know if he will play the role again in the MCU.
"Who knows if anything will come of it, who knows," he explained.
"But, it was a fun thing to do, and I’m pleased that people seem to have enjoyed it."
