With every new superhero movie release, fans speculate what other heroes might make a cameo appearance, maybe in a post-credits scene.
This has been the case for both the DC Extended Universe and the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Due to both universes spanning dozens of movies and television shows, it is necessary for other characters to turn up to link one project to another.
Two versions of Batman (played by Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton) are featured in The Flash.
It has been reported that Affleck filmed scenes as Bruce Wayne for Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom. However, director James Wan has confirmed that these scenes would only be used if The Flash came out AFTER Aquaman 2.
When asked by Empire if Batman will appear, Wan replied: "Probably not. All I'll say is that those scenes were just to have something in the bank in case we needed to explain time continuity if we came out first. But it ended up with Lost Kingdom coming after The Flash".
Sounds pretty conclusive.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will be like Men in Black
Wan previously teased the buddy comedy narrative we can expect from the new superhero epic.
For the first Aquaman movie, the plot largely focused on the romance between Arthur Curry (Jason Momoa) and Mera (Amber Heard).
This time around, the focus will switch to the friendship between Arthur and former foe Orm, played by Patrick Wilson.
“From the start, I pitched that the first film would be a Romancing The Stone-type thing – an action-adventure romantic comedy – while the second would be an outright buddy comedy. I wanted to do Tango & Cash!" Wan told Empire.
“Jason plays Arthur larger-than-life; Patrick plays the straight man. It’s not unlike what Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones did in Men In Black – like Tommy, Patrick plays it dry, but very funny.”
