Het werd een dag voor een zwaar tentamen bekend gemaakt, waarop ik volgens mij zelfs het nieuws gemist heb. Het blijft echter toch wel vreemd.

Dad's Army actor Colin Bean dies, 82

Actor Colin Bean, who made his name playing Private Sponge in Dad's Army, has died aged 82.

A flamboyant character with a fund of showbusiness anecdotes, Colin, who spent his last years at Wickham Hall Care Home in Springfield, died peacefully in Wigan Infirmary on Saturday.

In a lifetime in theatre, he played a myriad of parts – from dame to Winston Churchill.

He was given star treatment at a reunion of the Dad's Army Appreciation Society last year.

It was only after years of hard theatrical slog in rep that Colin was spotted in 1968 by his old friend Jimmy Perry, one of the creators of Dad's Army, and won a part.

Colin's autobiography "Who Do You Think You Are Kidding" went into three editions.

Farrah Fawcett, the blond-maned actress whose best-selling poster and "Charlie's Angels" stardom made her one of the most famous faces in the world, has died. She was 62. Fawcett had been battling anal cancer on and off for three years. Ryan O'Neal, Fawcett's romantic partner, recently told People magazine that the sex symbol was fading.

Kdacht ook van: konden ze eigenlijk geen deftigere woord geven, zoals darmkanker ipv anale kanker.

In de medische wereld is anus een vrij normaal woord (zowel in NL als engels). Ze zouden het ook omslachtiger kunnen omschrijven (distal orifice of the gastrointestinal tract cancer), maar het is nu eenmaal de locatie die de naam bepaald. Hoe raar de naam ook is, simpelweg is kanker de doodsoorzaak.

Farrah Fawcett ken ik eigenlijk alleen maar van naam. Altijd triestig om te horen als die ziekte weer een slachtoffer heeft gemaakt.

Yasmine is hier al jaren een bekend gezicht, kwam haar erg vaak tegen tijdens het zappen, waarna er meestal weer snel weggezapt werd, want boeiende televisie vond ik het niet. Altijd jammer dat er iemand zelf een eind aan maakt. Vooral erg voor de familie en vrienden die achterblijven.
