Art may be imitating life on Glee — with the passing of protagonist Finn Hudson in the wake of leading man Cory Monteith‘s death last month — but executive producer Ryan Murphy says it won’t be an exact replica.

“At one point, we were going to have his character die after an accidental drug overdose — that was something we had considered,” Murphy revealed in an interview with Deadline. “But we have decided that we’re not going to have him pass from that.”

In fact, viewers may never learn the exact circumstances of Finn’s death, the showrunner added. “How somebody died is interesting and maybe morbid,” Murphy continued, “but we say very early on in the episode, ‘This episode is about a celebration of that character’s life.’ That might be weird for some people, but it felt really exploitative to do it any other way.”

Murphy added that Glee‘s “cast and crew have had solace in being together” shooting Season 5′s pair of Beatles-themed installments, but “the really difficult thing” — filming the Finn tribute — will begin this week. “I think [the script] turned out to be a lovely tribute, and it’s a very heartfelt look at how some people grieve,” he added. “We’re trying to craft an episode that’s not just about us grieving but about a lot of the young fans grieving.”

Glee is adding a little X appeal in Season 5.

Actress-singer and X Factor judge Demi Lovato is nearing a deal to join the Fox musical dramedy’s upcoming fifth season for a significant arc, TVLine has learned exclusively.

According to sources, Lovato (who turns 21 on Tuesday) will play Dani, a NYC-based struggling artist friend of Rachel and Santana’s. She will also interact frequently with Adam Lambert’s incoming character, and the pair will have several musical numbers together.

Lovato’s deal calls for her to appear in at least six episodes, beginning with the second part of the show’s Beatles’ tribute, airing Oct. 3. (Glee will work around Lovato’s X Factor schedule.)

The Glee gig marks Lovato’s first major acting role since her Disney Channel series Sonny with a Chance went off the air two years ago. Additional acting credits include the Camp Rock films and episodes of Prison Break and Grey’s Anatomy.

Expect Fox to maximize the cross-promotional opportunities, what with X Factor‘s results show leading into Glee on Thursdays this fall. (I’m calling the tagline: “It’s Demi X 2!”)

Miley is hard achteruitgegaan sinds ze op haar leukst was in S4 van Hannah Montana. Hudgens zou ik wel willen, Gomez ook wel.

Ben allang blij met Lovato, al vind ik het wel sneu voor haar dat er nu weer een hacker is die foto's van haar heeft.

Yup. De hacker zegt van wel, maar de site aan wie hij ze heeft aangeboden, wilde ze niet.

Ik vind het bij haar wel erger, zij heeft al zo veel meegemaakt.

De titel van aflevering 3 is "the quarterback".

Ik weet niet meer of het al in S4 is aangekondigd dat Sue de nieuwe principal wordt, maar dat slaat natuurlijk helemaal nergens op, en is enkel een excuus om haar in de serie te houden.. Ach, waar maak ik me druk om...

In S4 nog niet nee maar Figgins lijkt ook gewoon in de serie te blijven. Het slaat natuurlijk nergens op maar dit levert natuurlijk weer comedy gold op voor Jane Lynch en dat kan ik alleen maar toejuichen!

Geweldig nieuws dat Demi Lovato erin komt, met ook al Adam Lambert gaat het nu wel celebrity's regenen.

Zolang Harry Styles en Justin Bieber niet gecast worden vind ik het best

Wat zonde dat Dianna niet gevraagd is voor de tribute aflevering voor Cory. Zij hoorde er absoluut bij, aangezien de geschiedenis die Quinn en Finn met elkaar hebben gehad.

Ik ben nieuwsgierig naar seizoen 5! 4 zaten ups en downs in. Ik ben en zal altijd een echte Gleek blijven. Met of zonder Cory in de serie. Ja, hij zal worden gemist. Ja, ik had weer gehoopt op Finnchel, maar helaas.

De Beatles tribute gaat geweldig zijn!! Ik kijk er zo naar uit!

Voor wie al een voorproefje wilt van de muziek:

Meh, ben sowieso al niet een fan van Blaine en al helemaal niet van The Beatles. Kan hier dus helaas niet veel mee. Kijk nu voor het eerst bij een seizoensopening van Glee meer uit naar de verhaallijnen dan naar de muziek. Al ben ik wel heel erg benieuwd naar Rachel's versie van "Yesterday".

Ik ben wel van The Beatles en het is dan ook geweldig dat ze twee afleveringen liedjes van de groep zingen. Ik kijk er al naar uit.

Ben niet zo'n Beatles fan, kijk dan ook vooral uit naar de Monteith-tribute

Ik ben er nog niet enthousiast over. Ik heb wel de promo gezien maar ik vond het erg raar na alles wat er gebeurd is. Weet dan ook niet of ik het überhaupt nog ga oppakken. Het gevoel erbij is 'weg'.
