Towards the end, it does get better. Unfortunately, I actually found it too boring before that. So, I really struggled with this, especially getting into it. In other words, a sleep-inducing movie, and that didn't really appeal to me, but I still wanted to see it. And so, it didn't surprise me. I found the story interesting enough, but not well-developed. The murders aren't really that significant. The only fun part was a woman who goes to work with a knife. The film doesn't get higher than a 2.0 from me. And I am one of the few.

A film for which I had rather high expectations, partly due to the bloody VHS cover (as Zinema already pointed out). The story is built up nicely, but it becomes clear quite quickly that Aunt Cheryl is a bit unhinged. The relationship between Billy and Cheryl becomes increasingly oppressive as it progresses. And that is precisely where the horror in this film lies, rather than behind the liters of blood that were promised. Only the finale is rather absurd, causing the film to lose some of its power in my eyes.
Susan Tyrrell plays delightfully bizarrely – sadly, she passed away last month – rest in peace.

Susan Tyrrell portrays a beautifully deranged woman here. She is so deranged that I wonder how Billy survived those 17 years.
Furthermore, the writers must be extremely homophobic, because I have rarely seen a film in which so much hatred was expressed towards homosexuals as in this one. Bo Svenson portrays the most homophobic detective ever here. His character is at least as deranged as Tyrrell's. The soundtrack also contributes significantly to the atmosphere and tension of the film.
It is incomprehensible that this film never received a DVD release, as quite a few worse films have already been released on DVD. But anyway, as far as I am concerned, this film is a little forgotten gem.
