A disappointing crime drama in which a former police officer tries to expose a murderer. Simply put, the story is a bit simple, but because the film is quite mysterious, it is still somewhat to watch. The pace is very slow. It doesn't get exciting, and every now and then an action scene or more could have been shot in it. Then when there's shooting, it's entertaining too. In particular, the moment in the hair salon that the agents are mercilessly shot by a suspect . Especially the character Zhizhen made it quite mysterious because it was not clear what her role was and/or whether she was involved in the events. The ending was poorly developed and seemed more rushed. The further I got, the greater my suspicions about this ending became. A big disappointment, and to be honest I can't understand why this film won an award.

Failed film, this Chinese neo-noir. Beautifully filmed at times, but the film only tries to get atmosphere from images, not from the content itself, which has made it a rather cold thing. There are also quite a few scenes that end abruptly, so that as a viewer you sometimes have the idea that you have missed something, but it also doesn't help me to get lost in the film. Sometimes nice and rough and bloody, locations are fine and the acting is okay. The director also occasionally puts in fun ideas, such as a camera shot that changes from first person to third person (on the scooter out of the tunnel). 2.5*.

In 1999, the search for a serial killer ends in a massacre that Detective Zhang Zili [Fan Liao] is the only survivor. Traumatized and without having exposed the perpetrator, Zhang resigns from his duties. Five years later, when the same killer appears to have committed another series of murders, Zhang sees an opportunity to get his revenge. Together with his ex-partner [Xuebing Wang], he investigates on his own. It soon turns out that the murders have a link with a young woman [Gwei Lun-Mei] who works at a launderette.

Beautifully filmed and well acted crime drama contains some excellent action sequences, including the blood-curdling suspenseful prologue. But Diao's slow direction means that the story unfolds very slowly, making it easy to lose your attention. Fortunately, there is an intriguing finale.
