Myortvye Dushi plot

Friendly swindler Chichikov buys from landowners their dead serfs, who, according to the last count, were still alive. He wants to take out a large mortgage on that dead fake capital. In this way he meets different types. One gives his dead serfs for free. The other asks a huge amount for it, “because they were such hard workers”. In the meantime, fierce mood-building against Chitsjikov arises.
