La Belle Nivernaise plot

Skipper Louveau (Pierre Hot) finds an abandoned baby. He names the baby Victor, takes him home, and gets permission from the local government to raise the boy. Ten years later, Victor (Maurice Touzé) and Louveau's daughter, Clara (Blanche Montel), are in love. At that moment Louveau is called to Paris where he is told that Victor is actually the son of Maugendré, another skipper on the Nivernaise canal. Victor is sent back to his 'real' father but misses his former life and especially Clara.
