Surprisingly strong. I understand that it is a film that is not for everyone because of the subdued atmosphere and the slowness of the film.
However, I liked it better than I thought. Just randomly clicked and quite surprised about the power of this film. It does give a very different view of terrorism and Guantanamo Bay.
The story is perhaps very simple and you could say predictable in nature. Some will probably say: nothing happens in this film. This is a film that relies on the power of the dialogues and the atmosphere that the one-sided location offers. The hopelessness of the detainee and the growing guilt of a female soldier played by Kristen Steward are the central themes of this film.
If you get used to the speed of the film and are really in the right mood, you will probably like this one. I also thought it had a nice ending. It's a bit of a shame that this film doesn't attract such a large audience, because the theme is actually more topical than ever.

This film about an illustrious disgrace on the American blazon starts (too) late. It is only in the second half that Kristen Stewart takes on Peyman Maadi in full. It must be said Stewart is holding his own against this acting gun from Iran (Jodaeiye Nader az Simin, Metri Shesh va Nim, ea).
Although not much happens, together they ensure that the film still scores a large enough.

Amanda Cole [Kristen Stewart] is one of the new recruits at Guantanamo Bay tasked with "keeping the detainees alive" (a term used to circumvent the Geneva Convention). Deadly boring, monotonous work, were it not for the fact that the 'detainees' regularly cross the line out of dissatisfaction with the way in which they are treated. One of them is Ali Aran [Payman Maadi], a man who reads Emily Dickinson's poems and has a fondness for Harry Potter. He tries to get into a conversation with Cole and in that way find some of his own humanity, but also that of his guards. Since the film mainly consists of conversations between two people on opposite sides of a cell, it is a challenge for director/screenwriter Sattler as well as for the two protagonists to keep the viewer interested, but they both do top work.
