It's 1991, and Spud Milton's long road to manhood is still at an unnervingly slow pace. He is approaching the ripe old age of fifteen, and still no signs of the long-awaited defloration. Spud comes to terms with the fact that he may be a freak of nature. With a mother who wants to emigrate, a father who earns extra money making home-brewed liquor, and a demented grandmother named Wombat, the New Year seems to have little to offer except extreme shame and even more humiliating madness at the private boarding school.
