Kolere, how is this thing going. Brilliant opening, one that immediately grabs you and then, in flashback, what exactly happened. Starts off a bit droopy and even naughty, but then there's that nightclub scene. With the jazz band. Intensely filmed, just like that opening. Once Bigelow begins to realize what's going on, it's all out and full steam ahead. It flies through the plot like a bullet in a pinball machine. You have to do your best to keep up with him, so to speak. It doesn't have much more to offer, but if you're with us, you'll have a nice movie. With a nice ending. So true.

Good film noir with a solid story, brought exciting with the necessary action by a filmmaker, unknown to me.
O'Brien is energetic in his role and Pamela Britton is very much in love. However those strange noises (a bit faint) in the beginning should show that Frank also wants something else . Doesn't detract from the appreciation for this film, though, not a topper in the genre, but certainly enjoyable.

DOA has a concept and beginning that is so coolly intriguing that the entire movie could float on it. Even if the rest of the film is less fluid and soon falls into a pattern in which Frank Bigelow played by Edmond O'Brien mainly moves from side character to side character and each scene becomes a little bit wiser. THE film makes clever use of the flashback with a very intriguing opening. You immediately wonder how that man ended up in that situation.

That strong concept has resulted in no less than four remakes. From almost a copy in 1969 to other films with almost the same premise. It's also turned into a musical. And you can't get much more noir than a man who thought he was innocent looking for his own killers when he didn't even know why anyone would want him dead.

I don't see a masterpiece in it, but above all a film whose concept and opening are so strong that you have to be a huge clumsy to screw it up. And so that doesn't happen.
