Germinal plot
A young man, Etienne Lantier (Henry Krauss), is fired after a conflict with his boss and settles in the mining region of Montsou in northern France. He finds work in a mine and shelters with the mining family Maheu. He falls in love with Catherine Maheu, but she is engaged to the violent Chaval. When the mine owner wants to introduce a wage drop, Etienne revolts: he incites the miners to strike. Film adaptation of Emile Zola's novel of the same name.
