Don't think it's all that special. Bit meaningless whole. Die Eisenberg really doesn't give a shit with his difficult face all the time. I find him a fairly talentless figure anyway, always the same story. Furthermore, Fanning is not good either. Easy. Furthermore, it is mainly the atmosphere (with a very small amount of subcutaneous tension) that saves this print from destruction. Eisenberg's murder of Fanning almost kills the film again. Well. Furthermore, I don't really care about loading a dam. Everything Reichardt tries to knit around it becomes too uninteresting far too quickly.

A moody drama about three environmental activists who, despite their differences in background and personalities, are forced to rely on each other to successfully complete an attempted sabotage of a dam. Director and co-screenwriter Kelly Reichardt takes the time to portray the characters and manages to keep the suspense pretty with atmospheric night photography and an effective score (by Jeff Grace), even if it's more about the development of the characters and their mutual understanding than for the sabotage they want to commit. Jesse Eisenberg, Dakota Fanning and Alexander Sarsgard are excellent in the lead roles and their scenes together make for some of the best moments. It's a pity that Sarsgard is out of the picture for a long time, because although there is little to criticize about the play of Eisenberg and Fanning, Sarsgard's character could have created a little more tension in the final.

Good recipe: simple story that creates a lot of air and space for everything that determines the atmosphere for a good film. Many drawn-out scenes and visible contemplation of Jesse Eisenberg in particular. No good guy bad guy guideline (notable for an American production already) and a confusing morality, none really. Or it should be: don't worry, because it will be different, won't it?.. And how different...
