An inimitable story, crazy scene transitions and the strangest music choices you've ever heard can't stop this from being a highly entertaining hodgepodge. So many things go right and wrong in every scene that you keep watching in increasing amazement, without having any idea what exactly. Not to be told.

Funny HK thing.

The usual mix of action, humor and a dash of romance, which in 80s/90s Hong Kong often guaranteed a fun film that entertains without having too much impact. A nice piece of entertainment, as long as you can accept that fun > quality.

I didn't realize beforehand that this would be a "Crying Freeman" movie. I only know the franchise by name, I don't think I've ever seen anything else about it. But if you're wondering why there's a completely twisted story in this film, the manga background is certainly a good first clue.

Furthermore, a lot of pace, fun action scenes and some corniness in between. The all-consuming HK machine and the pace at which films were made there are certainly aspects that contribute to the relative confusion of this film. It has charm for enthusiasts, but as a novice HK viewer it took some getting used to, so this is probably not the best film to start with.

So entertaining. Rather nonsensical, a bit incoherent, but above all touching and fun.

Apparently based on a Japanese manga and I think they rely a little too much on the viewer's familiarity with the story. Not that these types of films always have to focus on the story. In addition to the colorful figures, we get the well-known mix of action and Hong Kong martial arts. Although that doesn't always turn out so well. They are fun, but not very original fights. I was amused by this film for a while, but it will probably be forgotten quickly.
