Very well made, with an excellent protagonist whose face almost tells the whole story and a particularly convincing Johan Leysen, especially in his closing speech. But unfortunately this film is also extremely predictable, with counselors who neatly illuminate all sides of the case so that the viewer can hear all the arguments and see that everyone is somewhat right – until the unexpected final scene... When Verheyen sees the outcome of Segers' trial would have undoubtedly led to viewers feeling cheated because they find it an unsatisfactory ending and/or critics accusing him of failing to understand the moral, political and legal consequences of his "argument". dares to put into action, but I have my doubts about the chosen ending (although Segers' very last act of the film [ are tears, because he did not get his wife and daughter back with his moral victory[/ spoiler]] is correct).

A penetrating drama, strongly portrayed by a whole host of skilled actors and actresses.

Verheyen (and his casting advisor) dragged in about half of Flanders for the cast, and the choices were mostly spot on.

De Bouw is one of my favorite Belgian actors, and it didn't disappoint me here either.

And then Jappe Claes, as Attorney General Vanderbiest.

His head and appearance alone make you hate the man.

Perfectly cast.

However, I got goosebumps at Johan Leysen's final plea in the role of lawyer De Cock.

Another strong example of his abilities.

I involuntarily had to think back to the then wildly popular BRT TV series "accused stand up" (1964-1980) in which assize trials were reenacted.
